Open Range Grill & Tavern: Upscale Comfort Food With a View
In a town where the views are as unforgettable as the food, Open Range Grill & Tavern located at Sedona Center has carved out its place as a go-to spot in Uptown Sedona. It’s relaxed, scenic and full of dishes that make you feel right at home—whether you’re there for a post-hike meal, a low-key date night, or a special celebration.
From Dishwasher to Chef
Chef Darko Obrenovic’s story is one that feels right at home in Sedona—grounded, personal and full of heart
“This was actually my first job,” he says. “I applied as a dishwasher about 10 years ago and before long, I was given the opportunity to step onto the grill. That’s where it all started.”
Today, he’s running the kitchen. After spending a decade working his way through nearly every role, he’s built a team that values consistency, craft, and food that feels thoughtful without being overcomplicated.
Elevated Comfort, No Fuss
At its core, Open Range is all about comfort-forward food made with care. The menu leans into familiar flavors—think American tavern classics with just enough of a Southwestern or Southern twist to keep things interesting. Expect things like green chili cornbread, prickly pear butter, and bold, satisfying dishes that hit the spot without trying too hard. The idea? Keep it simple, flavorful and well-executed.
And no surprise here, steak is the standout. The restaurant works with a trusted supplier out of California, sourcing high-quality prime beef that doesn’t need much dressing up.
A Menu That Matches the View
Sedona has a rhythm all its own, and Open Range leans into it.
“People come here to slow down and enjoy the scenery,” says Darko. “So the food should match that pace.”
The restaurant is designed with both locals and travelers in mind: comforting enough for regulars, and just adventurous enough to give visitors something new. Add in those floor-to-ceiling windows with red rock views? The whole thing just works.
Seasonal Dishes, Familiar Vibe
Open Range keeps its core menu steady, but every few months they rotate in seasonal specials. These dishes give the kitchen a chance to get creative without straying too far from what diners know and love. Regulars especially appreciate the change; it gives them a reason to keep coming back.
A Place You Can Dress Up or Down
What sets Open Range apart from other Sedona restaurants? It’s the vibe. The food feels elevated, sure, but the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. The space is open and modern, but you’ll never feel out of place walking in after a hike or sitting down for a birthday dinner.
It also happens to be right next to The Venue at Sedona Center, so it naturally complements weddings, events and larger gatherings.
What Guests Remember
For Darko and the team, the goal is simple.
“We just want people to feel well cared for,” he says. “Good food, solid service and an experience that’s relaxed, but still memorable.”
In a town full of photo-worthy moments, Open Range gives you one more reason to slow down, take it in and linger a little longer.
